Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is generally recommended for trekkers opting for wilderness and adventure. This trek will guide us towards the north of Kanchenjunga Base Camp starting from Suketar and ending at Thorpe. Apart from the thrilling experience of natural splendor, you are also provided with an opportunity have a closer outlook into rural lifestyle of Nepal. Since this trek goes up to a greater height, there are higher chances of suffering from altitude sickness so it better to take precautions.

As you land at the airstrip of Tribhuvan International Airport, you need to move towards a line to let officials perform custom formalities. Upon completion of visa and custom formalities, you will head towards exit of Arrival Hall. Our representative will be waiting for you. Please look for Alaya Holidays in the placard that will be holded by our representative. He will greet you and escort you to the hotel. Welcome drinks will be served. After refreshment, you will receive briefing regarding your trek. Stay overnight in a hotel.

This is the day in which you will closely observe the medieval city of Kathmandu by participating in an exciting sightseeing tour. Out of 10 UNESCO sites in Nepal, 7 lies in Kathmandu Valley while 4 of these sites exist in Kathmandu. On this day, you will visit Nepal’s largest Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath, holiest Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, 2500 years old Buddhist shrine of Swoyambhunath and the ancient Royal Palace at Kathmandu Durbar Square. You will get time for trek preparation and shopping in the afternoon.

We will catch 50 minutes of flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. The flight allows pretty views of Jugal Mountain, Langtang Mountain, Kanchenjunga Mountain and other mountains. Biratnagar is one of the major trade center of Nepal. We will explore the market area and visit local temple. Stay overnight in Biratnagar.

Connecting flight from Biratnagar takes us to SuketarAirport in Taplejung. We will assemble the crew and take 3hrs of walk along ridgeline to reach LaliKharka which is a vast grazing area. Stay overnight in LaliKharka.

We will lower down to Pakora village along Phawa River. Crossing the Phawa River over a suspension bridge, we will climb uphill to Kunjuri. The trail continues over crest to Kheswa from where we can get first view of Kanchenjunga Mountain and Yalung Kang. Stay overnight in Khesewa.

The path begins to get more steep. Leaving Mamankhe, we will walk along the trail located above Kabeli River.We will undergo series of ups and downs and cross valley to Anpan village. Lowering down to Kashawa River, we will follow the ascending trail to Mamankhe. Stay overnight in Mamankhe.

Early in the morning, we will follow the ascending trail to Yamphudin. The trail continues high above KabeliRiver. We will cross the ridge and walk along river bed. The trail is pretty much straight towardsYamphudin. Yamphudin is one of the remotest settlement in the area that is located below Deurali Hill. Yamphudin is also the last village till we reach Ghunsa. Stay overnight in Yamphudin.

Leaving Yamphu Din nearly in the morning, we will climb uphill through spur to the top of ridge from where we will traverse the lively oak and rhododendron forest. The trail continues through meadow that allows spectacular views of Kanchenjunga. Lowering down to the river, we will cross the bridge over Omje River and reach Chitre where we will stay overnight.

Leaving Chitre early in the morning, we will take steep climb for about 3hrs to reach to the top of Deurali Danda Hill. We can get close-up view of Jannu from the top. The trail descends from the hill and takes us to the forest. Exiting from the forest, we will arrive at the valley of Simja River. We will cross the log-bridge and reach Tortang where we will stay overnight.

We will walk along the river and cross the coniferous forest. Following the ascending trail, we will follow the path that stretches along line of scattered trees. We can get striking view of snout of Yalung Glacier from most of the point. As we get close to Tseram, we can get close-up views of Kabru and Rathong peak. We will reach Tseram which is a vast grazing area. Stay overnight in Tseram.

We will take short hike to Ramche on this day. The trail gains almost 700m of altitude before we can reach Ramche. Our journey continues along snout of Yalung Glaciers and a frozen lake to the valley. The route allows views of Koktang Peak, Rathong Peak and Kabru Peak. Stay overnight at Ramche.

We can get first close-up look of Kanchenjunga on this day. Walking along the valley, we will get epic view of south face of Kanchanjunga along with Jannu Peak. We will walk across Yalung Ri Glacier to Oktang(4,730m) that is secured by southern wall of the mountain. Oktang allows views of three major summits of Kanchenjunga including the view of glaciers that flow from the eastern face of Jannu. Stay overnight in Oktang.

Yalung Ri Base Camp is the highest point of this trek. We should take slow and cautious walk through the escalating path to reach Camp. Possibility of high altitude sickness exists around this area. So, follow the instructions of guide carefully and report to him if you get symptom of high altitude sickness. Stay overnight in Yalung Ri Base Camp.

Temperature drops down at Yalung Ri Base Camp during night. We will wake up early in the morning and enjoy the views of Yalung Glacier and valleys. Walking along the frozen lake, we will follow the scenic trail to Ramche where we will stay overnight.

As we lower down to the valley, we will reach to the base of Labsang La Pass. We will walk through the north side of Kanchenjunga. Moving further, we will reach Mirgin La Pass. We will take slow and gradual walk through spurs to reachMirgin La. If you choose proper climbing equipment and follow the instructions of guide, climbing Mirgin La should not be that difficult. We will enjoy the view of Janu, Makalu, Everest, Lhotse and other mountains from the top and lower down to our campsite at Saller le for overnight stay.

After taking tea, we will leave Saller le and reach Lamba Sumba Kharka. The place allows stunning views of Southwest face of Jannu Peak. Following the descending trail through forest, we will reach Ghunsa village. The culture in Ghunsa is similar to neighboring Tibetans. The trail is decorated with prayer flags. We will visit local monastery. Do not forget to try Tongba, a local beverage while you are in Ghunsa. Stay overnight in Ghunsa.

From Ghunsa, we will take slow and gradual ascend to the south of Ghunsa River. We will walk along flood plains to the meadow that exists to the north of river. The trail climbs steeply before lowering down to Lakepo. Brief climb from Lakepo takes us to Kambachen village where we will stay overnight.

We will take break from Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek on this day. Taking rest at Kambachen helps us in proper acclimatization and it also helps us to break the stress of trek. We can explore around Kambachen on this day. Jannu Base Camp is a place of interest near Kambachen.

After a day of rest at Kambachen, we will climb through moraines to Ramtang that is located at 4,240m altitude. The trail stretches northwest of Kanchenjunga Glacier to Lhonak. We will find a place in between boulders for camping overnight. Our campsite allows great views of surrounding mountains. Water is scarcely available at Lhonak.

Pang Pema is taken as Base Camp for Kanchenjunga Expedition. Main summit of Kanchenjunga is visible from Pang Pema. Leaving Lhonak, we will walk through plain for an hour before taking steep climb through spurs and moraine to Pang Pema. The trail is moderately difficult. Once we reach Pang Pema, we will set camp and stay overnight.

Early in the morning, we will leave our camp in Pang Pema and take almost an hour of trek to the ridge that exists to the north of Pang Pema. The ridge allows panoramic views of Kanchenjunga Mountain, Tent Peak and other peaks and mountains. Returning back to the ridge, we will retrace the route back to Kambachen where we will stay overnight.

Pang Pema is the farthest point of Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek. We will lower down from Kambachen and walk through forest area to Phole. Moving further, we will reach the winter settlement of Ghunsa. Stay overnight in Ghunsa.

Ghunsa is the first settlement area that we encounter after Yamphu Din. We will leave Ghunsa and walk through forest area. Exiting from forest, we will reach the grassy hillside of Amjilosa. Stay overnight at Amjilosa.

Leaving Amjilosa, we will take slow and gradual climb to the ridge. Once we reach the top of ridge, we will enjoy the views of surrounding mountains and take the descending trail. We will arrive at the confluence of Tamor River and Ghunsa River. Stay overnight in Sakalathum.

Leaving Sakalathum, we will cross Simbu River. The river has its origin in south base camp of Kanchenjunga. We will walk past forest that is rich in cardamom. We will cross small stream and reach the village of Chiruwa which lies among boulders. We will find a place in Chiruwa for setting up camp. Stay overnight in Chiruwa.

After an early morning tea, we will cross valley and walk through local villages of Rai, Limbu and Magar ethnics. As we lower down from the ridge, we will follow the level path along Tamor river to reach Suketar where we will stay overnight.

We will board a flight from Suketar to Biratnagar early in the morning and then take connecting flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu.

This is a free day. Spend the day on your own. You can take rest or go for shopping gift items. Thamel is best destination for shopping handicrafts. We can also organize optional sightseeing tour.
