Ama Dablam Base Camp Trekking is for those who wish to reach to less frequented area in Everest region. Ama Dablam still remains remote and secular. Not only does this trek allow impeccable views of Mount Everest but adventure to Base Camp of Ama Dablam is once in a lifetime experience full of unforgettable views.

Ama Dablam got its name of Mother’s Necklace after hanging glacier which decorates this majestic mountain like a jewel around the neck. The trek offers insight into ancient Sherpa culture and their ways of living.

Alaya Holidays is a professional travel company that operates full support adventure to the exotic Ama Dablam Mountain. Our trek begins from Lukla after boarding a flight to Kathmandu. Ama Dablam Base Camp trekking route continues through Sagarmatha National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage site. Sagarmatha National Park is rich in Himalayan wildlife including elusive snow leopard, deer and other. The trail moves up and down of valley to Namche, the capital land of Sherpa and gateway to Everest region. We will visit Khumbu’s largest Tengboche Monastery and climb further to Ama Dablam Base Camp via the highest permanent settlement of Pangboche. Pangboche Monastery is believed to hold skull of Yeti, the abominable Snowman. The Base Camp greets us with views of Nuptse, Kantega, Tawache, Lhotse and Ama Dablam Mountains.

Day 05: Acclimatization in Namche

Once you land at the airstrip of Tribhuvan International Airport, you need to move towards a line to let officials perform custom formalities. Upon completion of visa and custom formalities, you will head towards exit of Arrival Hall. Our representative will be waiting for you. Please look for your name in the placard that will be holding by our representative. He will greet you and escort you to the three-star category hotel. Welcome drinks will be served. After refreshment, you will receive briefing regarding your trek. Stay overnight in a hotel.

This is the day in which you will closely observe the medieval city of Kathmandu by participating in an exciting sightseeing tour. Out of 10 UNESCO sites in Nepal, 7 lies in Kathmandu Valley while 4 of these sites exist in Kathmandu. On this day, you will visit Nepal’s largest Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath, holiest Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, 2500 years old Buddhist shrine of Swoyambhunath and the ancient Royal Palace at Kathmandu Durbar Square. You will get time for trek preparation and shopping in the afternoon.

After breakfast, we will drive to Tribhuvan Airport from where we will catch a morning flight. Taking a pleasant flight along Himalayas, we will reach Tenzing- Hilary Airport in Lukla. After assembling the crew and arranging the baggage, we will begin trek to Everest Base Camp. About 4 hrs of trek will take us through Ghat village to Phakding. We will have a memorable journey along mani walls through culturally rich villages where we will experience deep spiritual awakening as we reach Phakding. Stay overnight at Phakding.

We will follow Dudhkoshi River for first couple of hours. Crossing suspension bridge, we will reach small yet exotic Zapute village. The trail leads us through settlements at Benkar and Chumoa to arrive at Monjo. At Monjo lies the Entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. Once we complete the formalities, we will enter Sagarmatha National Park to witness the vast aura of Himalayan wildlife including Blue Sheep and Yak. Crossing Hillary Bridge, we will make it to Namche, the gateway to Everest region. Enjoy close-up view of Thamserku Mountain and stay overnight in Namche.

It is very important to take a day of rest in Namche as it will help our body to get proper acclimatization with the increasing altitude. There are many interesting places in Namche. We can visit ancient Namche Bazaar. Khumjungis a local village located near Namche that allows deep insight into local culture. Stay overnight in Namche.

Khunde is a beautiful Sherpa village that is located near to Namche. The village offers exquisite views of Thamserku, Amadablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest and other peaks and mountains surrounding Khunde. There is a centrally located Buddhist Monastery at Khunde. The trail passes through Khumjung village. There is a hospital founded by Edmund Hillary at Khunde. Explore the village and interact with locals. Stay overnight at Khunde.

From Khunde, we will move in and out of valleys. The trail allows close-up views of Everest and Amadablam. We will pass through tiny dispersed villages to PhukiTanga (3250m). The trail from PhukiTanga onwards is steep. We will pass through forest and mani stone to Tengboche which offers views of Kwangde Peak (6187m), Tawache Peak (6542m), Everest and other peaks and mountains. The gate for Khumbu’s largest Tengboche Monastery opens after 3pm. We will proceed further to Deboche where we will stay overnight.

Leaving Deboche, we will walk past mani walls and enter rhododendron forest area. We will cross Imja River and climb the exquisite trail lined with stones to reach Pangboche. Pangnboche is known to be the highest permanent settlement area. There lies oldest gompa in Khumbu region in Pangboche. Skull of yeti is an attraction of Pangboche Monastery. Stay overnight at Pangboche.

We will reach Amadablam Base Camp on this day. The trail gradually escalates uphill. Amadablam appears closer with each step. The Base Camp offers 360degree views of Himlayan panorama and a view of breath-taking hanging glacier. The base camp area is clustered with tents used by climbers. After capturing the historic moments in camera, we will descend to Phortse for staying overnight as it is unwise to spend a night in Amadablam Base Camp from acclimatization point of view.

Early in the morning after tea, we will leave the small Sherpa village of Phortseand follow the lowering path through rhododendron and juniper forest. Moving further, we will walk along DudhKoshi River and enter forest area where we can enjoy watching Himalayan birds including Lophophorus, the national forest of Nepal. The trail continues to Sansa village. We will walk further to Tengboche. Crossing DudhKoshi River, we will make it to Namche for overnight stay.

From Namche, we will walk through rocky area. The trail continues through a suspension bridge back to Lukla where we will stay overnight.

Leaving Everest region, we will take 40 minutes of flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla. After arriving at the airport, you will be escorted back to hotel. Take rest and let your muscles stretch.

This is a free day. Spend the day on your own. You can take rest or go for shopping gift items. Thamel is best destination for shopping handicrafts. We can also organize optional sightseeing tour.
